Recording a process with the web recorder

Real-Time Process Recording

The web recorder lets you capture process stages in real time as you observe them — perfect for Gemba walks or time studies.

How it works

  1. Navigate to Tools → Web Recorder from the main menu.
  2. Click Start Recording when the process begins.
  3. Each time the process moves to a new stage, click New Stage and give it a name.
  4. The recorder automatically tracks the time spent in each stage.
  5. When the process is complete, click Stop Recording.

Adding details during recording

While recording, you can add notes to any stage by tapping on it. Common details to capture include:

  • Number of operators working at the stage
  • Any waiting time or delays observed
  • Quality issues or rework
  • Inventory levels between stages

After recording

Once you stop the recording, MapVS generates a value stream map from your captured data. You can:

  • Edit stage names and timing data
  • Add additional metrics (changeover time, uptime, etc.)
  • Convert the recording into a full map with analytics
  • Compare multiple recordings of the same process to find variation

Tips for accurate recording

  • Practice once before the actual observation to familiarise yourself with the controls.
  • Record the process from the customer's perspective — start from the order and end at delivery.
  • Capture what actually happens, not what the standard procedure says should happen.
