AI photo-to-digital VSM
Digitise Your Whiteboard Maps
Many teams create value stream maps on whiteboards or large paper during workshops. The AI digitisation feature in MapVS converts a photo of these physical maps into editable digital maps.
How to use it
- Navigate to Tools → Digitize Photo.
- Upload a clear photo of your whiteboard or paper VSM.
- MapVS uses AI vision to identify stages, connections, and any visible metrics.
- Review the extracted stages and correct any misreadings.
- Click Create Map to generate your digital value stream map.
Tips for best results
- Lighting — Ensure even lighting without glare or shadows on the whiteboard.
- Clarity — Use dark markers on a clean whiteboard. Smudged or faded writing reduces accuracy.
- Angle — Take the photo straight-on, not at an angle. The AI handles minor skew but struggles with extreme angles.
- Completeness — Capture the entire map in one photo if possible. If the map is very large, take overlapping sections.
What gets extracted
The AI can identify:
- Stage names and their sequence
- Numeric metrics (cycle time, lead time) if written clearly
- Inventory triangles and their quantities
- Information flow arrows
Always review the extracted data for accuracy — AI is helpful but not perfect, especially with handwriting.
