Step-by-Step Process Capture

Guided recording combines the convenience of templates with the accuracy of real-time observation. Instead of filling in a blank map, the system walks you through each stage of a template, prompting you to enter observed data.

Starting a guided recording

1. Navigate to Tools → Guided Recording.
2. Select a template that matches your process type.
3. The system presents each stage one at a time.
4. For each stage, enter the observed cycle time, operators, and any notes.
5. Click Next to move to the next stage, or Add Stage if your process has a step not in the template.

Benefits over free-form recording

• Consistency — Every team member captures the same data points for each stage.
• Completeness — The template ensures you do not skip important stages or metrics.
• Speed — Pre-named stages mean less typing during the observation.
• Comparability — Multiple recordings using the same template are easy to compare.

After the recording

The guided recording produces a complete value stream map with all the data you captured. You can further edit it on the canvas, run analytics, or save it as a baseline for future comparison.
